Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Scope & Purpose

The Coordinator of Youth Ministry provides opportunities to enrich the faith formation of youth and their families at Second Presbyterian Church Louisville and calls the faith community to love and serve its youth.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college of university in Christian education, education, child/adolescent development, ministry, programming/recreation, or related field and 2+ years demonstrated experience with youth.
  2. Enthusiasm and love for youth in grades six through twelve and ability to connect with them, as well as establish positive and supportive relationships with their families.
  3. Experience working with volunteers including recruiting, training, supervising, supporting, and providing feedback.
  4. Demonstration of collaboration, delegation, teamwork, positive attitude, patience, and flexibility.
  5. High energy with the ability to plan and facilitate creative, engaging, and exciting, learning and fellowship experiences for middle and high school youth.
  6. Commitment to personal faith and spiritual development, as well as that of the youth and their families that is consistent with Presbyterian Church USA beliefs.
  7. Demonstration of strong administrative skills including planning, organization, time management, and program evaluation, as well as, excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  8. Basic computer skills, including email, social media, word processing, and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

  1. Work closely with the Pastor/Head of Staff to advance a faith formation plan for youth. Accordingly, design and implement a youth ministry that promotes the spiritual growth, personal development, and engagement of youth.
  2. Welcome and develop relationships with youth and their families in conjunction with staff and Youth Committee members that fosters a sense of belonging, acceptance, inclusion, collaboration, and fellowship.
  3. Create, lead, and evaluate engaging and exciting Christian faith formation, fellowship, and mission activities that promote leadership, teamwork, and personal growth, while being mindful of the diverse experiences and needs of the youth.
  4. Recruit, train, equip, lead, supervise, support, and provide feedback to a strong network of Youth Ministry volunteers.
  5. Facilitate an effective, timely, and comprehensive communication plan for youth and their families regarding activities and events.
  6. Oversee the development and distribution of Youth Ministry program documents, as well as maintain detailed activity and event plans and related documents.
  7. Manage a balanced budget. Develop an annual budget in collaboration with the Youth Committee.
  8. Support and work collaboratively as appropriate with other professional staff to support their programs for youth and their families.
  9. Work collaboratively with the pastoral staff, Youth Committee members, and Personnel Committee members, as appropriate, to create and update policies and procedures for Youth Ministry.
  10. Attend monthly Youth Committee meetings to give updates and engage members in ministry. Attend church staff meetings as available and monthly Session meetings as requested.

Work Schedule

The Coordinator of Youth Ministry position is part-time, 20 hours per week, 12 months, nonexempt, includes work on Sundays, as well as some evenings and Saturdays, and reviewed annually. Flex time will be arranged with the Pastor/Head of Staff in advance for those occasions when it is deemed necessary.

Accountability

The Coordinator of Youth Ministry reports directly to the Pastor/Head of Staff and is fully accountable to the Session of Second Presbyterian Church Louisville for performance and conduct under the aegis of the Personnel Committee.
