Trips and Retreats

The High School and Middle School youth groups have a array of trips and retreats each year, with annual trips like the Winter Ski Trip, a Summer Mission experience, and of course, Montreat Youth week. Although individual trips may have a special focus, every trip will include Bible Study and community care.

Basketball

The youth program sponsors a basketball team in the Beargrass Christian Church League.  Practices begin each October or November and the season begins in January.

Child/Youth Protection Policy

For the safety of our children and youth, Second Presbyterian Church adheres to a very detailed, comprehensive Child Protection Policy. Leaders in the youth program are required to participate in an orientation seminar about the policy. Background checks are required for all regular program volunteers and driver’s license checks are required for anyone who transports youth during a youth activity. Copies of the policy are available in the education office.

All 2PY participants need to have a notarized Medical Release form and 2PY Expectations form on file at all times. Each August at the kick-off event, new forms must be completed. Before every major trip, a Personal Information form must be completed for each participant. The Personal Information Form enables the trip advisors to take care of the youth throughout the trip!

Program Communication

E-Mail List

The youth program has an official “Youth Program E-Mail List”. Addresses on the list will receive regular reminders about ministry activities, and news from the youth program. Phone Tree

The church has an automated message delivery system called the “phone tree” that can call a specific list of phone numbers. The youth program uses this technology to remind its participants of things that are happening. Only participants who request to be on the phone tree list receive phone calls. Emergency Cell Phone - 298-7012

Jorge Sayago-Gonzalez, our Director of Youth Ministries, carries an “emergency contact” cell phone at all times and expects youth and their families to call when they are in need of a ministerial presence. From "help me right now" to deaths in the family to needing a ride home on Friday night to avoid drunk driving, the phone is a strong line of this church’s commitment to Youth Ministry. Parents are also encouraged to use it to contact the group during church-sponsored activities.
