Women's Fall Retreat, September 17-18

As summer comes to a close and the season of harvest begins, the Presbyterian Women of Second invite all women to join us for our Women's Fall Retreat. "A Harvest of Our Gifts: Faithfulness, Fellowship, Harmony, Serenity . . . " will be led by Rev. Beverly Shouse Maguffee, a graduate of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Executive Director of the Kavanuagh Life Enrichment Center. Our retreat will offer guided time for reflection on God's Word, quiet time for spiritual renewal and prayer, and gathering time to strengthen our Christian fellowship.

The retreat beings at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening, September 17, to 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, September 18, (check-in Friday any time after 4:00 p.m.) at Kavanaugh Life Enrichment Center in Crestwood, KY (20 minute drive from Church). Private Room: $90, Double Occupancy Room: $70 (Includes 3 meals)

Morning Joy Bible Study Begins September 9

Starting Thursday morning, September 9, Steve Jester will be leading a study on the Gospel of John and it is sure to be thought-provoking and insightful.
Often referred to as the “spiritual Gospel,” John differs from the other three gospels in its tone, structure, and portrayal of Jesus. The Fourth Gospel isn’t just a narration of Jesus’ life. It focuses on his divinity. It is an argument for belief - that Jesus IS the Christ, the Son of God and that it is through believing that we gain life.

The study is open to all - men and women – and is not limited to members from Second. So, be sure and invite a neighbor or friend to come too. Also, while we encourage you to come each week, there is no required attendance. You are always welcome.
While the format of the study is lecture-based, Steve’s approach is extremely interactive. Questions are encouraged and concepts are discussed and explored collectively.

To sign-up, just email Kim Tribolet or call her at the church office at 895-3483 ext. 219. You can also register on September 9, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. To defray the cost of materials, all participants are asked to contribute $10. Make this study a part of your weekly schedule.

Evening Worship Service

Weekly Evening Worship begins Sunday, September 12, at 5:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall “A.” We don’t want to call it “alternative” or “contemporary” or even “casual” worship. A tentative idea is calling this time of worship “3rd @ 2nd,” which is consistent with labeling trends at Second and sends the message that this third worship option is more casual in setting and dress and has a more contemporary feel.

At any rate, we pray this will be a helpful option for members and friends who seek a different time for, and approach to, worship.

A Time for Prayer, Tuesday Mornings at 9:15

Please join us on Tuesday mornings for "A Time for Prayer in the Chapel." You are invited to come any week you are able and just as you are, to sit with others in the chapel as we share with one another the concerns of members of our church family and of others whom we know are in need of prayer.

A Time for Prayer is not a formal worship service, but instead a time to gather together, to share and to pray. All are welcome.
